The developmental focus of this department includes four major areas:
high-tech disaster prevention and monitoring, pollution control and remediation, green engineering and materials, and systems engineering and management.
In response to market trends, we have also added the fields of sustainable energy and smart optimization. The distinctive features of our teaching and research emphasize a balance between practice and theory, the integration of civil and environmental engineering, mutual support among various academic groups, and the development of cutting-edge technology alongside the updating of traditional techniques. Our department trains students not only to utilize the best technology and efficiently use the minimum environmental resources but also to create a high-environmental-quality society that meets modern public needs. Concurrently, we cultivate students' potential to pursue graduate studies and pass national examinations in the fields of civil or environmental engineering.

In terms of developmental characteristics and positioning, our department integrates civil and environmental engineering, setting foundational courses with the goal of nurturing professionals with expertise in both civil and environmental engineering. Specifically, in curriculum integration, the department adopts a four-pronged approach:

(1) Co-teaching by faculty with different specialties (e.g., Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering, Engineering Project Practice, Introduction to Renewable Energy, Renewable Energy and Design Thinking, Advanced Renewable Energy Practical Project, etc.)
(2) Offering courses required for interface integration (e.g., Geographic Information Systems, Engineering Materials, etc.)
(3) Providing fundamental required courses in civil and environmental engineering (e.g., Civil Engineering Laboratory, Environmental Analysis and Laboratory, etc.) (4) Integrating concepts into existing professional courses (e.g., Capstone Project/Special Topic Research, Advanced Renewable Energy Practical Project, etc.)
